A family of four, moving from Reynosa,Tamaulipas, Mexico, to Brenham, Texas, United States adjusting to a new style of life, far away from family and spanish, is an experience that taught me how to adapt to any change, how to look at the positive things of life, and how to never give up.I learned that no matter how tough the situation could get, one as a person can make the most out it by having the right attitude. I had to learn English while not having so many friends who spoke Spanish that could help me, but that did not stop me from fitting in with my classmates as a 3rd grader. Moving to America was a game changer, but it had taught me the language key to success and reaffirmed in me the enthusiasm to face challenges, embrace change, and be proud of who I am and where I came from.
Growing up in the suburbs of a booming city growing economically was a special time of my life, as walking to school with friends, playing soccer on the street, and the ability to always pass time with my loved ones was great. All of that changed one day, and I did not notice the huge impact that day had on my life. I look back at it , and reflect on how it changed my life, as from a push factor arose a pull factor. Being introduced to the language of English was something that marked my elementary school life, as first, I did not knew a single word in English, but with the right mindset and support, I was able to conquer that fear of being afraid of speaking it. Everything was new to me, from the food to the majority of the culture, but the big picture was what mattered, which was that I was still thankfully with my family and that we had a shelter.
Being able to embrace change and diversity taught me a lot, as it meant that one should not be afraid of new experiences. With English and a better education available in the Land of Opportunity, destiny had something new for me.
With all of that in my plate, I never forgot where I came from and those who came with me along the way. At the end of the day I was another human being, and being thrown into a new style of life taught me that it is not how events affect us, but how we affect events that happen to us. I look forward into facing new challenges and the places I will go, and of course, the places I will be. Nothing in life is granted, and I had to learn that the hard way. However, with that, I also learned to embrace each day, each moment, each person around me. I will never forget where I am from, and I will always look up to facing a new experience or learning something new, just like a young 8th year old did when his family moved from home to home.
